Went to visit my friend for lunch on Friday. Little Man was putting some applications in around where we were having lunch. She was kind enough to take the boys home with her to let them jump in their very nice and refreshing pool while I ran home to get swimsuits. Makes no sense right. They were supposed to WAIT for me to get their with their suits BEFORE jumping in. HA! I got their with their suits and they were already in the pool. So, Ms J and I got in and joined them. I love their pool. It's a saltwater pool and it was so refreshing. Her son "super D" will be home from college this Thursday to join them for a vacation and we are going back to visit. Super D is B's hero. They have been best buds since B was 7. Super D was 14 and playing baseball on the same team as Hurricane. Ms J and I kept the boys at a different hotel than the rest of the team during our trip to KS for World Series. (This turned out to be a really GOOD thing cause the rest of them ended up getting into no end of trouble). During a game B went to D (this is how he got his name) and said "Super D- hit me a home run". His next at bat, SD launched one more than 400 feet over the fence and told my punk: "That was for you". Super D's other claim to fame came in the pool on this same trip. See, SD and H got bored. They wanted to play volley ball in the pool. The problem with this was that they didn't have a volley ball type ball to play with. So, they invented a game using the little brother as the ball. One of them stood on either side of the rope dividing the pool and they took turns launching the young one in the air. I will have to tell you that in the years since then, B has gained around 100 pounds and this game would in no way, shape or form EVER work at this point. The person who could throw him the highest and make him do the most flips before hitting the water won the round. Being as SD had a much bigger build than H, he won almost every round and B thought he was the bomb. Hero worship formed and has maintained thru the years. SD called B and personally invited him to his high school graduation, they still talk over their computers and text messaging and SD has been a wonderful role model/hero to B. When B tells him that classes are too hard, or that he's not smart enough to go off to college like SD did- SD is always there to pick him up and encourage him (or bully him as the case may be) to keep working for it. He's come home from school and gone to watch B's games and boy does that make you the big man on campus when you're 9 (or 10 or 12 etc) and someone DRIVES to watch your game. SD is graduating in 3 years instead of 4 getting his degree in business finance with straight A's and I couldn't ask for a better hero for my 13 year old (who isn't always fond of school). Much better than some of these public personalities who spit tobacco and cuss on tv with thousands of kids watching. Right? We call B Super D's shadow. He follows him around like a little shadow (or not so little anymore). Allowed me to have a great time when we went to Yellowstone together. I didn't have to worry about where B was wandering off too- if we knew where SD was - we could find B. But, now Yellowstone is a story for another time.
LM is desperately trying to find a job. He's got applications in all over the place. I hope he finds one soon. B goes to the Dr. this week. We'll get to find out if he goes back in for eye surgery #8. Fun. Fun. Fun. Ice Cubes gf had a birthday last week and we went to her birthday party yesterday. It's was hot and I couldn't only stay a couple of hours. I got too hot at B's try-out that morning and felt sick all day. Ended up going ahead and signing him up for the AA team in the neighboring city. I watched his try-out yesterday and he just didn't look like his heart was in it. I'm still seeing the after-effects of his old coach burning out. When Coach JM burned out- he didn't do it gracefully and it did some damage to the way B has looked at the game. I'm thinking a nice, mellow, laid back season might get the fire back in his belly and motivate him again. I hope at least.
Enjoy your week!
