Heather over at Comparative Childhood gave me the Honest Scrap Award. Thank you so very much Heather! I am supposed to list 10 things that you probably don't know about me and then pass it along. Sounds fairly easy right? But I don't know that I have 10 things that you don't know about me. ;) Let's see what I can come up with.
1. I was a music major in high school and going into college. Had scholarship offers from several universities. I decided that I wanted to keep my music as a way to relax and not major in it in college. My instrument that got me all the awards and acclaim? The string bass. Better known as an over-grown violin.
2. I played bass on an album for a church choir when I was 17. I still have the album.
3. I got hooked on "the Young and the Restless" when I was in the hospital at 15 and still keep up with it. Mostly.
4. I am a Garth Brooks fanatic. I got pneumonia standing in line to get tickets for his last tour. Got them though. Row 13- center stage. Hurricane went with us.
5. I used to do ceramics. I had to quit when my hands quit working right but I still have a bunch of the holiday stuff around that I made and I drag it out for the appropriate holidays.
6. I don't like alcohol. I used to drink (more than enough) and Little Kings was a great friend of mine when I was in my early 20's but I lost the taste for alcohol in 1987 and haven't really had much besides a glass of wine here and there since. EXCEPT FOR...
7. When we went to Yellowstone, We ended up spending a night in a little "town" (the town consists of a gas station that sells bear and elk hunting licenses) named Muddy Gap. We parked the trailers in a field by a gas station with the 2 doors of the trailers facing each other. My friend, her hubby and I fed the 8 kids sandwiches and fruit for dinner and then opened a bottle of wine and drank the whole bottle. I got up with the sunrise and watched the sun come up over the mountains. One of my favorite memories of the whole trip.
8. I skipped a lot of college when I was supposed to be going and got my CDL license and drove truck for a while. My parents hated the whole idea but I have a wanderlust in me and still love to go see new places. I was hauling steel when most places didn't have a woman's restroom in them.
9. The wanderlust in me sometimes threatens to overwhelm me. I just want to move or go or find something new. I'm like a baby with a sucker at the thought of traveling. My head swivels around like its not attached or something. Staying in one place to do what has been best for my kids has been probably the hardest thing I've ever done. Yes! Even harder than raising 5 kids with no support and no semblance of a father figure.
10. I used to be the biggest chicken. I didn't think that I could survive without my ex. I didn't think that there was any possible way that I could do any type of decent job raising my kids by myself and I am extremely proud of what I've done and how far I've come. Even if there are days when I wonder if I've done a good job or if I've taught them anything at all. I know I gave it my best.
I have so many blogs that I love now, I don't know who to pass it on to. Well, here's 3 for you. To anyone that I didn't name.... please don't be offended. I love you all!
1. Sharon at "You're Not My Real Mom". Another mom of teenagers living the "fun" life. She knows just how much "fun" it is when they turn from little people into teenage monsters. ;)
2. Ambrosia at "Adventures of a Wicked Stepmother". I admire this woman so much! I don't know how she keeps her sanity with 3 teenage daughters and an absolutely certifiable crazy woman in the picture.
3. Minnie over at "Their Wicked Stepmother". You have to check out her blog! She gets me laughing at the best possible times. Or worst if you count the diet coke I just choked on laughing....
And to anyone I missed..... Love ya all!
