What is 2996?
Project 2,996 is a tribute to the victims of 9/11.
On September 11, 2006, more than 3,000 bloggers joined together to remember the victims of 9/11.
Each year we will honor them by remembering their lives, and not by remembering their murderers.
If you would like to help out, by pledging to post a tribute on your own blog on 9/11 of this year, click the button at the top of the sidebar. Then, use the web to learn something about the life of the name you are given, and on 9/11, post your tribute your blog or website.
But, and this is critical, the tributes should celebrate the lives of these people–kind of like a wake. Over the last 5 years we’ve heard the names of the killers, and all about the victim’s deaths. This is a chance to learn about and celebrate those who died. Forget the murderers, they don’t deserve to be remembered. But some people who died that day deserve to be remembered––2,996 people.

OK folks, this isn't a political blog. It's not going to become a political blog and I'm the type that believes that your political choices and beliefs are all yours and your business. But there comes a time in everyone's life where something touches them enough that we throw it out there. And this is one of those times for me. Tomorrow marks the day that we, as Americans, were attacked on American soil. A day that 2,996 people lost their lives in America due to a terrorist attack. And for the man in the Oval Office to want to change this day to a "National Service Day" is wrong. Its an insult to all the people who lost friends, loved ones, acquaintances. It's an insult to the folks who gave time, energy, money to go there and try to help. So, tomorrow, I will be remembering where we were that day. How it affected our family and our lives. And remembering the people who died that day in a break from my regularly scheduled programming. And if any of you want to join me... Cool! And if you don't... Well, that's cool too!
On another note, Heather of Comparative Childhood was so kind to notice that I changed the look of my blog around a bit. Thank you Heather! I took the picture on the header at the Red Sox game in August. Takashi Saito is the pitcher in the picture and he was so kind as to ham it up for my camera before the game. I loved the picture and decided that with my two favorite teams in a race to see who will win the wild card and go to the play offs this season, it was a good time to post it. Right now, the Red Sox hold a 2 game lead for the wild card over the Rangers. Although I am a Red Sox fan too, this season I would really like to see the Rangers make it to the play offs. Although what I would really like is to see the Rangers take the American League West from the Angels. I don't know that there's much of a chance of that though. Speaking of Rangers, I have to call my wonderful rep and get some tickets for when we're in town next weekend.
