Mom of many heading into empty nest syndrome- come enjoy the ride!

About Me

My photo
Little Town in the middle of Nowhere, Texas, United States
I'm a mom of 4 boys: Jay who's 30, Jory who is 27, Tim is 25, and B is 23. I also have a daughter, Kristi who is 33. I have a grandson, Little Bit/Elmer, that was born in July 2009. I have a new grandson who was born in September of 2017. We moved from North TX to East TX on the land of our dreams in '09 and I love the peace and quiet. It's so nice to have trees again after 11 years of flat and hot. I enjoy hanging out with my friends. I'm a huge baseball fan. Some might even call me obsessed with the game. ;) My favorite teams are the Rangers and the Red Sox. Being a Red Sox fan makes life interesting as all 4 of my boys are Yankee fans. (Basically, I only started cheering for the Red Sox to give the boys a hard time and then actually became a fan) I'm a happily single (well...divorced) mom.

so much to do - so little time

Tonight - the big match up of the Rangers - Yankees series.  Cliff Lee vs Andy Pettitte.  I can't wait for tonight.  Cliff Lee of the Rangers has 6 wins in his first 6 post season games.  There are only 2 pitchers in history that have beaten that record and he can tie one of those tonight.  Andy Pettitte of the Yankees has the most post-season starts of any pitcher in history. He also has the most post season innings pitched.  This game is broken records and history in the making.

I'm getting B's room painted this week.  One way or another it will be done.  I've spent the last 2 days patching assorted little holes (kids dented the wall with the door handle type stuff) and working on getting it prepped.  B hates me messing around in his room so he's not thrilled with the idea.  Tough.  I'm hoping to get on it one morning just after he leaves for school, and have it 2nd coated before he gets home.  Then it's just a matter of putting it back together.  You'd think with him having a girlfriend now that he'd want his room cleaned up and smelling/looking nice.  I'd love to put new carpet/flooring in his room too.  Wonder if he'd be mad about that?  I know he wouldn't be.  He wants laminate flooring in there though and well.... that might be more money than I can hang.  I'll have to see how much it would be for that room.  Maybe get a box here and a box there till I get enough to do the room.  Maybe I'll have a box or two left over after I get the family room done.  One step at a time.  That's all I can do.  After I finish painting B's room, I'm putting new carpet (I already have) in Little Mans.  I'm really hoping to have all this done by Thanksgiving.  Celebrate Thanksgiving in what will look like a brand new house.  Floor wise at least.

On another positive note.  I texted Ruth yesterday about seeing Elmer.  I want to go pick him up after I finish up this work here at the house.  That way all is done and I'm not trying to do 100 things while he's here.  Ruth said that we could work something out.  Now, does she know that Ice Cube was being a jerk where the baby was concerned?  I would doubt it.  I imagine she'd be most unhappy with him if she knew.  Little Man wants to go get the baby this week.  I'm thinking that it would be better to wait until next month when we have things taken care of around here.  I want to be able to spend all my time playing with him.

I have been working on so many little things around here today.  Just fixing all the little odds and ends that ding and bump over time.  Any of you home owners will know what I'm talking about.  All those little things that add up - a loose screw here, the furnace filters need changed there.  Kids are hard on a house.

Well, off here to finish something else on my to-do list.  I imagine it's going to be non-stop for the next few days.  I wish I felt more like doing these things and had energy.  But then again, sitting on my duff isn't making me more energetic.  So, maybe the way to get energy is to get up and do.  I guess I'll find out if it works or not.  ; )

have a laugh

So, would everyone like the big laugh for 2010? I have been doing the great debate about moving my blog. So, last night I went over to that other blogging site and started playing around. They have a couple of things that I really like about their site. One is that you can cross words out on their site. For whatever reason, even though other people (my daughter for one) get a word cross out option on here - I don't. I am thinking that this is because I am on a Mac computer. Bloody differences in operating system. The other thing I like about their site is that you can password protect certain posts. But here's what I didn't like. The other site won't let me play with the layouts like this one does. And I couldn't find a layout scheme that I liked in the least. Ok, that's not true. I found layouts that I liked but not in the colors that I cared for. Ok, so makes me anally picky. I think the biggest thing that I didn't care for was with my blog roll. I have this one site set to show who's updated. I want to know when my friends have posted. Its important to me. So, for now. I remain here. The privacy issue isn't as important to me as knowing when my friends post. And with satellite internet, I have to be careful as to my internet usage. Otherwise, my internet slows down to nothing. And this works for me. For now. So, I'll leave the other blog up for now but I'm going to stay here. So, you can get a good laugh out of me messing with the new site for hours last night while I cussed my computer and both sites. And all this started because I wanted to cross out a word. Because word crossing appeals to my sense of humor. Or lack there of. Go ahead. Laugh yourselves out at the vision of me sitting here madly going thru all this and trying to figure out how to rip the innards out of one or both of these blog sites.

In other news, I'm thinking about making a trip back to old town next week. Ice Cube is missing me and I'm missing the baby. And his birthday is coming up. I need to go down and spend his birthday with him (or at least some time around his birthday since I have a Dr's appointment the day after his birthday here). My kids have gotten too old and too cool to allow too many hugs. But the wee one hasn't gotten too big or cool yet to not want grandma to hold him. I can't take a very long trip back this time because Little Man has to work. I'm not comfortable leaving him here for all together too long by himself. Hurricane wanted to know about his friend (Tanner) and why his friend couldn't keep him company. That would be because he's not here. His mom came and picked him up yesterday for a visit. I'll pick him up and bring him back this way when I leave old town. Tanner was texting me last night. He was already feeling lonely. He said it was too quiet there. His mom didn't want to meet me. I can almost understand that. Almost. If my kid was living some place, I'd want to know where he was staying and who he was with. But, I'm funny like that. She didn't even want to come to the house. She wanted us to drop him off some place in town and she'd just pick him up there after I was gone. She said that she was afraid that I would "jump her". If I weren't so offended, I might have laughed myself silly. That ranks up there with one of the stupidest things that I've ever heard. She actually has asked Tanner to move back home. There are some issues with her new man. Tanner told her that at this time, although he wants to be able to visit and have a relationship with her, he's not ready to move back home yet. I would think that nothing but good can come from a renewal of any type of relationship between Tanner and his mom. This doesn't stop me from being offended with her unfounded paranoia.

I had a good chat with my old kids New Years Eve. I got a chance to talk to the sister as well as both the boys. Sister was feeling guilty with what's going on with her mom. She said that she feels like she "owes" her mom because she's her mom. Now, I know that this is going to be controversial and that there will be people out there that don't agree with me. Doesn't matter. I told her that she didn't "owe" her mom. That she had the right to be upset with her mom. She told me that it was good to be able to talk to someone that had been there thru it. So many people that the kids know now, they weren't around then. They didn't see what happened. Even if they knew the family back then, they weren't in the inner circle I guess you'd say. Or they're people who are related to her mom. She and I talked a bit about her sister. We talked about some conversations that her sister and I had had before her sister passed. And she was able to talk to me about some things that had been bugging her about what happened with her mom. Did I slam her mom? Of course not! But there's no sugar coating the stuff that her mom did either. There's no glossing over the fact that they lost their sister, their uncle and their dad all within the last 4 years. Facts are that mom hasn't tried to contact them since she came back and took the truck. That she hasn't bothered to maintain or work on a relationship with the kids. And the fact is that this "you don't love me if you don't agree with me" attitude that their mom has is childish or just plain garbage. And the truth is - your kids don't owe you anything. Ok, you can argue that your kids owe you respect. In a lot of cases, that might be true. And kids should at least show respect. But her mom owed her so much more than that. At least when she was younger. Her mom owed her a life that wasn't tainted by drug usage. Her mom owed it to her to set a good example and do right by her kids. The kids are adults now. The youngest boy is 21. And whatever choices they make, the kids have to make from what they know is right and wrong. They are old enough to accept responsibility for their choices. I don't much care for people who blame their childhood for the poor choices they make as an adult. At some time, those people need to stop trying to lay blame and accept responsibility. None of that is either here or there though. I still had a great chat with all 3 kids.

Well, I need to get some things done before I even begin thinking about a trip back to visit the kids. And despite the fact that it's Saturday, my kids are hard at work in their books. Christmas break, weekends, holidays - they don't much matter when it comes to schooling around here. So, back to the grind. Hope y'all enjoyed your laugh. Enjoy your weekend!
