Mom of many heading into empty nest syndrome- come enjoy the ride!

About Me

My photo
Little Town in the middle of Nowhere, Texas, United States
I'm a mom of 4 boys: Jay who's 30, Jory who is 27, Tim is 25, and B is 23. I also have a daughter, Kristi who is 33. I have a grandson, Little Bit/Elmer, that was born in July 2009. I have a new grandson who was born in September of 2017. We moved from North TX to East TX on the land of our dreams in '09 and I love the peace and quiet. It's so nice to have trees again after 11 years of flat and hot. I enjoy hanging out with my friends. I'm a huge baseball fan. Some might even call me obsessed with the game. ;) My favorite teams are the Rangers and the Red Sox. Being a Red Sox fan makes life interesting as all 4 of my boys are Yankee fans. (Basically, I only started cheering for the Red Sox to give the boys a hard time and then actually became a fan) I'm a happily single (well...divorced) mom.

they're finally back to work/school!

Life around here has been hectic.  Little Man and B were both home sick Monday and Tuesday.  B had an ear infection with it in his throat too and he was starting with the bronchitis cough.  LM had an absolutely horrid case of bronchitis. They were both seriously ill.   Thankfully, after 5 hours spent Monday at the Dr. and pharmacy and a couple of days of antibiotics they're back to their normal jerky bratty healthy selves.  LM back at work today.  He's got to go to one town (1 1/2 hrs away) then drive to another town (over an hr away from the first one), pick up a truck and then deliver it to the metroplex (over 2 1/2 hrs from town 2).  He's going to spend the whole day riding in a truck and getting paid $10/hour for it.  B went back to school today.  Toni's mom and step-dad are divorcing and in typical small town fashion, everyone knows about it and everyone wants to talk to her about it.  She's upset.  Understandably so as she and mom had to move (closer to us and still in the same school district but still...).  So, Toni has been spending a lot of time here with B while mom is at work.  This is all fine with me.  They are very sweet together and they have a vow of no .... well, none of that stuff.

In other news, LM and Jo ended their very short relationship.  I think it was less than 2 weeks that they actually "dated" or were "in a relationship".  Jo spent a lot of time here both before they were actually "dating" and then while they were.  Now, Jo is a nice girl.  She was respectful.  She is not however - clean.  We found things like dirty diapers (from her 1 year old) under LM's bed.  I also spent too much time cleaning up after her child when the baby was here.  She doesn't feed the baby - she just puts it all on the baby's tray and puts too much food down at once.  It's too many things for the baby to choose from and she ends up throwing a bunch of food.  This was irritating - in a large way.  So, were the 1/2 empty Dr. Pepper cans in the fridge (going flat) and the glasses left lying around my house.  Yes, I am anal.  I don't have a lot of nice stuff.  Most of what  I have I have been given.  But, I do have a few antiques that came from either bio-mom or my parents.  A rocking chair that my grandparents rocked my dad in that my dad rocked me in and we have rocked my children in. A dry sink that stores the china that my bio-mom gave me.  China that we've never used but was her mothers.  An old roll top desk that was my bio-mom's dads.  And an original ethan allen that came to me from my parents.  I get really irritated when people put drinks on any of these things.

In other news, I was asked to write a couple of articles about youth sports and parental involvement.  Will these articles ever see the light of day as in actually being published?  I don't know.  I know it was an honor to be asked!  I spent 7 years volunteering for the baseball board for a very large baseball association in the metroplex.  We enrolled about 700 kids in spring and about 500 in the fall ages 3-18.  I had 4 boys playing and they sponsored the boys in return for my time.  I met a lot of people and have seen everything from overly involved parents trying to relive their childhoods thru their kids, to great parents who were supportive and donated time and money to the kids, to parents who thought that sports were merely an unpaid babysitter.  I've seen parents who were nothing but supportive and parents who were horrid to the kids.  I've seen parents corner an umpire (15 year old kid umpiring a game of 7-8 year olds) and threaten the umpire over a call.  I stepped in on that one and had some dad's (and a mom) most unhappy with me.  I had some great experiences with my boys with them in sports.  I miss it and sure hope that B gets to play ball this year with the high school.

Well, Jim is bringing his truck over today.  Ice Cube is off work.  We're going to get some firewood together and stacked so that I have wood for the fireplace for this winter.  Y'all have a great day!

the weekend....

So did everyone have a good weekend?  Tomorrow is a school holiday.  B has a Dr's appointment and so do I.  B is coming down with something again.  He's coughing and sniffling and feeling generally miserable.  Again.  On top of that, he turned his ankle getting out of Colby's truck last night and his ankle is so swollen that he can't barely get his boot on.  I'm hoping that it's better this morning after he stayed off it last night. <<<<<------ this is how far I got with writing this post yesterday before my B hopped out of his bedroom and showed me his foot.

The foot? It was nice and purple.  Yep.  I said purple.  It was purple from about 4 inches above the ankle down to his toes.  It was swollen to the point that he couldn't put on either his boot or his shoe (yes, he has a pair of tennis shoes.  Don't anyone have a heart attack!  He rarely wears them but he owns them.)  He got in the shower and I *itched about begged him to go to the doctor.  He got out of the shower and I still begged nagged him to go.  He finally agreed.  And off we went to the hospital for some x-rays.  He did ask me several times if I thought he had broken it.  I didn't ever think it was broken but the only way to tell for sure was to get an xray.  A big thank you and congratulations to the hospital we went to since they had him in and out of there in less than an hour.  I rarely get in and out of the doctors office that quickly.  An ice pack, an air cast, and 3 prescription later, we were headed home.  They think he either stretched or tore one of the ligaments in his ankle.  I told him a break would be better.  They heal faster and more easily than a ligament or tendon tear.  He, of course, is at the age where he knows it all and doesn't listen worth a diddley squat.  Today is a school holiday though and he's back in his room with his girlfriend that we'll call....Hmmmm.... Tori.  They're on the couch watching movies in the game room.  Door open. I can hear them.  And I walk in on them every little bit.  Spoke too soon - out they came.  ;)

So, my Little Man had an eye opening experience this weekend.  He had asked me to let him take their 4 wheeler over to his friends house to fix.  I told him no for the longest time and finally said yea - go ahead.  So, I found out this weekend that not only had they not fixed our 4 wheeler .... They took the rear end and tires off of it and put them on their 4 wheeler and were riding it.  I had to get involved and let them know that this was unacceptable and that I wanted my 4 wheeler back.  Parts intact.  This is supposed to occur tonight.  It had better or they're going to get a good taste of the temper that I have worked so hard to control for so long.  I know where my boys get their horrible tempers from.  They come by them honestly.  I've just spent many a year learning to control my temper while they have much less experience.  Besides, I've always believed that it's better to get even than to get mad.  ;)

So, we got the video of Colby and B off the disc and onto Nanny's computer.  I think Colby might have gotten it up onto his FB.  I have to figure out how to get it onto mine.  The guys at the fair were so nice to let the boys ride this ride! Even if they did give me more gray hair.  Eh - well, off here to finish cleaning the house from this weekend.  If I don't get it done soon, the dust bunnies will mutiny and take over the living room and demand equal tv time.  Hope y'all had a great weekend!
